As thousands gather for Cheyenne Frontier Days, Cheyenne Laramie County Public Health (CLCPH) is working behind the scenes to keep the community safe and encourages everyone to make their health a priority.
Our Environmental Health division assists in fly control to help reduce nuisance pests and support overall sanitation at Frontier Park and surrounding neighborhoods. The team ensures food vendors at the park and throughout town are properly licensed and inspected. Education is provided on regulations and food safety to visiting vendors, and when necessary, the team will dispose of unsafe food. Environmental Health also works to ensure campgrounds are properly licensed and inspected. This is necessary to prevent groundwater contamination, and it also provides safe water sources for visitors.
Sexually Transmitted Infection rates are known to rise during large public events. CLCPH stocks the First Aid Station at Cheyenne Frontier Days with free condoms for anyone who needs them. This service is also always available at Cheyenne Laramie County Public Health, located at 100 Central Avenue.
Our team also provides free sunscreen stations around Frontier Park.
Hot temperatures are expected. CLCPH reminds everyone to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade when needed. This is especially important for babies, young children, and older adults as they are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
Signs of heat-related illness can include headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, irritability, thirst, heavy sweating, elevated body temperature, and decreased urination. Emergency medical care should be taken if a person is experiencing confusion, loss of consciousness, hot, dry skin or excessive sweating, seizures, and very high body temperatures, as these can be symptoms of heat stroke.
“We want everyone to enjoy the festivities – but also to take simple steps to stay healthy,” said Kathy Emmons, Cheyenne Laramie County Public Health Executive Director, “From preventing foodborne illness to protecting yourself from the sun, we’re here to support our community every step of the way.”
