Two separate food recalls are impacting stores and restaurants in Wyoming. BrucePac had ready-made chicken products pulled from shelves due to potential listeria contamination, while McDonald’s has pulled the Quarter Pounder from its menu in Wyoming due to E. coli concerns.
BrucePac’s recall of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products began early in October. BrucePac supplies meat to a number of food brands, including Reser’s Fine Foods products, which were voluntarily recalled Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and a number of other states this month due to possible listeria contamination.
Listeria infections can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

McDonald’s Recall
McDonald’s in Wyoming have stopped serving Quarter Pounder burger patties and slivered onions for a short time. The decision comes after customers in multiple states have found to have gotten E. coli infections after eating Quarter Pounders. McDonald’s and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is still investigating which ingredient is causing the contamination and will keep the Quarter Pounder off the menu until the source is found.
E. coli infections can be severe. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting. Symptoms usually start three to four days after eating contaminated food. While most people recover after five to seven days without treatment, those with serious infections may develop kidney problems and require hospitalization. Talk to a healthcare provider if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
- Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
- Bloody diarrhea
- So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
- Signs of dehydration, such as:
- Not peeing much
- Dry mouth and throat
- Feeling dizzy when standing up
